These terms explain the agreement between you and S.M.C.U. They should be read alongside the product information, Privacy Notice, Shipping Policy and Returns & Refunds Policy available on this website.

1. Who operates the store?

This website and store are operated by Jamie Atkinson, a sole trader trading as Standard Maintenance Company Uniform, also referred to as “S.M.C.U.”, “we”, “us” or “our”.

Business address:

2. Accepting these terms

By placing an order through this store, you agree to these terms and the policies referred to within them.

Nothing in these terms limits or removes any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK consumer law.

3. Using the store

You must have the legal capacity to enter into a contract. If you are under 18, you should place an order only with the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian.

You must provide accurate and complete information when placing an order. You are responsible for checking your chosen products, sizes, quantities, delivery address and contact details before submitting payment.

4. Products and descriptions

We take reasonable care to describe and display products accurately, including their materials, dimensions, fit, colours and intended use.

Colours may appear slightly different depending on your screen, lighting conditions, garment batch or production method. Minor manufacturing tolerances may also apply to garment measurements and print or embroidery placement.

These normal variations do not affect your rights where a product is faulty, materially different from its description or not of satisfactory quality.

5. Availability

Products and variants are subject to availability. Most S.M.C.U. products are made to order using stock held by specialist production partners.

If an item becomes unavailable after you order, we will contact you and offer an appropriate alternative where possible. You do not have to accept an alternative. Any unavailable item that cannot be supplied will be refunded.

6. Prices and payment

Prices are displayed in pounds sterling. Delivery charges and the final amount payable are shown at checkout before you submit the order.

Payment must be authorised using one of the payment methods offered at checkout. Payment services are provided by Shopify and the applicable payment provider.

We may change prices at any time, but changes will not affect an order that we have already accepted.

7. Pricing and listing errors

If we discover an obvious pricing, description or availability error before an order has been dispatched, we will contact you. You may confirm the order at the correct price or cancel it for a full refund. We will not substitute a different product or charge a higher price without your agreement.

8. Placing and accepting an order

01

Order submitted

You choose the goods, provide the required details and authorise payment.

02

Order acknowledged

Shopify sends an automated confirmation showing that the order has been received.

03

Order accepted

The contract is accepted when we confirm that the order has entered production or has been dispatched.

We may decline or cancel an order before dispatch where payment cannot be authorised, an item is unavailable, an obvious listing error has occurred, delivery cannot reasonably be completed, or there are reasonable grounds to suspect fraud or misuse. Any payment taken for goods we cannot supply will be refunded.

9. Made-to-order production

Most S.M.C.U. goods are printed or embroidered after the order is placed. Production normally takes approximately 3–5 working days.

A standard S.M.C.U. design produced after purchase is not automatically a personalised product. The ordinary cancellation rights described below therefore continue to apply unless an item has genuinely been made to your individual specification or personalised at your request.

10. Delivery

Delivery estimates and charges are explained in our Shipping Policy and displayed at checkout.

Unless another delivery period is agreed with you, goods will be delivered without undue delay and within 30 days after the contract is made.

You are responsible for providing a complete and accurate delivery address. Contact us promptly if you notice an error, although an address may not be changeable once production or dispatch has begun.

Responsibility for the goods passes to you when they are delivered to you, or to another person you have nominated to receive them.

11. Your right to cancel

For most goods purchased online, you may cancel without giving a reason by notifying us within 14 days after you receive the goods.

After telling us that you wish to cancel, you normally have a further 14 days to send the goods back.

Contact stores@standardmaintenance.co.uk with your name, order number and the items you wish to return.

Further instructions, return conditions and refund times are set out in our Returns & Refunds Policy.

12. Personalised and non-returnable goods

The change-of-mind cancellation right may not apply to goods made to your individual specifications, clearly personalised goods, sealed goods that are unsuitable for return for genuine health or hygiene reasons once unsealed, or other goods excluded by law. This does not affect your rights where an item is faulty, damaged, misdescribed or supplied incorrectly.

13. Returns and refunds

For change-of-mind returns, you are normally responsible for the cost of sending the goods back.

You may inspect and try goods as you reasonably would in a shop. We may reduce a refund where the value of an item has been reduced by handling beyond what is necessary to establish its nature, characteristics and fit.

Where the entire order is cancelled, any refund of delivery charges will cover the cost of the least expensive standard delivery method offered.

Refunds are normally issued using the original payment method and in accordance with the timescales in our Returns & Refunds Policy.

14. Faulty, damaged or incorrect goods

Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for their normal purpose and match their description.

Inspect your order when it arrives and contact us as soon as reasonably possible if anything is faulty, damaged, misprinted or different from what you ordered.

We may request your order number, a description of the issue and clear photographs. Depending on the circumstances and your legal rights, the remedy may include repair, replacement, price reduction or refund.

15. Product care and use

Follow the care instructions supplied with the product or shown on its product page. We are not responsible for deterioration caused by ordinary wear, misuse, accidental damage, unsuitable washing, alteration or failure to follow reasonable care instructions. This does not affect rights relating to faults that were present when the goods were supplied.

16. Discount codes and promotions

Discount codes and promotions may have stated eligibility requirements, expiry dates or product exclusions. Unless otherwise stated, only one promotional code may be used per order. Promotions cannot be applied retrospectively after an order has been placed.

17. Website use

You must not knowingly misuse the website, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, scrape restricted information or use the store for fraudulent or unlawful purposes.

We may suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect customers, systems, payment services or the store.

18. Automated Stores Desk assistance

Mavis is an automated Stores Desk assistant. She can provide general guidance using information from the store catalogue and published policies.

The automated assistant cannot independently change or cancel orders, issue refunds, approve returns or make binding promises on behalf of S.M.C.U. Where human review is required, contact the Stores Department using the details published on the website.

19. Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the website design, written material, product graphics, photographs, names, logos and other original content are owned by or licensed to S.M.C.U. They may not be reproduced, sold, altered or used commercially without permission, except where permitted by law.

20. Third-party services and links

The store uses third-party services including Shopify, payment providers, production partners and delivery providers. Links to external websites may also be provided for information. External services operate under their own terms and privacy notices, although S.M.C.U. remains responsible for its own obligations to customers.

21. Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill.

We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made, or for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control where we have taken reasonable steps to minimise their effect.

Products sold through this consumer store are supplied for personal use. We are not responsible for business losses such as loss of profit, revenue, contracts or business opportunity where you use a product mainly for commercial purposes.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits responsibility where doing so would be unlawful, including responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or goods that are faulty or not as described.

22. Events outside reasonable control

Production or delivery may occasionally be affected by events outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather, postal disruption, industrial action, transport failure, government restrictions, fire, flood or major service outages. We will take reasonable steps to reduce delay and keep affected customers informed. Your statutory rights, including any right to cancel after an unreasonable delay, remain unaffected.

23. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes in the store, services, suppliers or law. The terms applying to an order are normally those published when the order was placed. A later change will not remove rights that have already arisen under an existing contract.

24. If part of these terms is invalid

If a court or relevant authority finds that part of these terms is unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining terms will continue to apply.

25. Delay in enforcing these terms

If we do not immediately enforce a right under these terms, that does not mean the right has been waived.

26. Third-party rights

The agreement is between you and S.M.C.U. No other person has a right to enforce these terms, except where the law provides otherwise.

27. Governing law and courts

These terms and contracts made through the store are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you live in another part of the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts where you live. Nothing in this section removes any mandatory consumer protection available under the law of your normal place of residence.

28. Questions and complaints

Questions, complaints and service requests should be directed to:
